From the deep cultivation of the R&D team, to the consolidation of the supply chain system, and then to the breakthrough in the high-end market, Newsonic Semiconductor is exploring more possibilities for domestic filters in its unique way. Whether Newsonic's success can provide a reference for other companies in the industry has also become a topic worth pondering.
Teamwork and Experience as the Cornerstone
Since its establishment in 2021, Newsonic has quickly secured a place in the filter market with its strong product capabilities and rich product portfolio. Its success relies not only on technological innovation but also on the experienced team behind it. Currently, the company has established an R&D department of about 90 people, which accounts for over 60% of the total workforce.
"Our R&D personnel possess a strong theoretical knowledge base and extensive mass production experience, which lays a solid foundation for our technological breakthroughs and product implementation." During the interview with ijiwei, Derek.Geng, Vice General Manager of Newsonic, pointed out: "In terms of innovation-driven strategic layout, from the very beginning, the company has placed the development and protection of its own intellectual property rights in an important position. We have already applied for over 500 intellectual property rights, including more than 150 authorized invention patents. These patents cover the core technologies of filters, providing assurance for the independence and competitiveness of our products, and effectively avoiding patent conflicts and infringement risks."
In the area of supply chain management, Derek.Geng stated: "Our supply chain team consists of over 10 professionals, each with more than 15 years of industry experience. Our supply chain focuses not only on cost and efficiency but also on deep collaboration and mutual growth with our suppliers, establishing long-term and stable cooperative relationships. This stable supply chain ensures the quality of our products and allows us to stand out in the industry competition."
High-End Breakthroughs and Comprehensive Product Line as Core Pillars
Newsonic Semiconductor's product portfolio is at the forefront of the industry in both breadth and depth. The company has launched a full range of filter products that cover BAW, SAW, TC-SAW, TF-SAW, IPD, and other processes, with continuous innovation and breakthroughs in technical levels. Derek Geng stated in an interview: "Technological innovation at Newsonic Semiconductor is one of our competitive edges, particularly in the realms of BAW and TC-SAW, where we have made significant breakthroughs. At present, these products have entered mass production and have been successfully delivered to over 90% of the leading mobile phone brands both domestically and internationally." These technological advancements have not only helped Newsonic close the gap with overseas manufacturers but have also allowed the company to secure a foothold in the high-end filter market.
To date, Newsonic has successfully mass-produced over 100 filter products, covering various fields such as consumer electronics, the Internet of Things, and automotive electronics, and each new product has been widely recognized by the market for its performance, stability, and reliability.
In Newsonic's product portfolio, the BAW filters and TC-SAW filter series stand out particularly for their advantages in high frequency, high bandwidth, and low loss. These features enable Newsonic's products to meet the demands of high-requirement communication technologies, with the comprehensive performance of several products now matching the high-end series of overseas manufacturers.
Newsonic's BAW and TC-SAW filters achieved a significant milestone in October when they passed the AEC-Q200 automotive specification certification, making them the first filter company in China to receive this certification. This accomplishment not only demonstrates the technological strength of Newsonic Semiconductor but also reflects its comprehensive quality management system. The high-quality standards of automotive-grade products require them to maintain high performance and stability under extreme conditions such as high and low temperatures, humidity, and vibrations, which poses higher requirements for production and supply chain management.
Derek Geng explained, "The passing of the automotive specification certification is not only a high recognition of our technology and quality but also a test of our supply chain's deep cooperation and management capabilities. We have formed a deep binding with our suppliers, achieving a win-win through long-term cooperation. This kind of cooperative relationship makes our supply chain more stable and ensures the consistent quality of our products."
Additionally, Derek Geng revealed that Newsonic has very strict quality control measures for automotive-grade products: "We not only conduct multiple tests during the R&D phase to ensure excellent product performance but also assign a dedicated quality management team to oversee the automotive product line. We strictly control every aspect from quality management to manufacturing to ensure the implementation of a zero-defect philosophy."
Abandoning internal competition and aiming high to discover the blue ocean
At present, the domestic filter market is facing fierce price competition. This price war phenomenon not only affects the profitability of enterprises but also causes some excellent companies to lose their space to survive in the disorderly competition. Derek Geng is deeply aware of this issue, and he pointed out: "Although the companies involved in the price war only account for a single-digit share of the Chinese market, the negative effects of low-price competition have gradually emerged. Low-price competition does not truly create value; instead, it traps some companies in a vicious cycle, preventing sustainable development."
He emphasized that domestic filter companies should avoid internal competition and focus on technological innovation and breakthroughs in the high-end market. "More than 90% of the global filter market is currently dominated by overseas giants, and there is a huge space for domestic filters to replace them. We need to achieve a breakthrough for domestic filters through technological innovation, improving product quality, and strengthening industry cooperation," Derek Geng stated. He believes that domestic companies should concentrate on the development of high-end products, abandon low-price competition, and work together to promote the overall improvement of domestic filters, gradually expanding market share hand in hand.
When discussing the future of the filter industry, Derek Geng showed firm confidence. "With the rise of emerging technologies such as global satellite communication, low-altitude economy, and 6G, the filter industry is poised to embrace a new round of growth opportunities."
Market Research Future estimates that by 2040, the global 6G market size will exceed 340 billion US dollars, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 58.1% during the period. The agency believes that China will be one of the largest 6G markets globally, with nearly 50% of global 6G patent applications originating from China, ranking first in the world.
The construction of 6G networks will involve higher frequency and wider bandwidth communication requirements, which means that the demands on filters will be even more stringent. Filter manufacturers need to further innovate in aspects such as frequency response, low loss, and anti-interference capabilities to meet the performance needs of 6G networks. In addition, the rapid development of the low-altitude economy will also bring new market opportunities for filters. The rise of industries related to the low-altitude economy, such as drones and flying taxis, has brought new demands for filters. According to the "China Low-Altitude Economy Development Research Report (2024)," it is estimated that by 2030, the market size of China's low-altitude economy will reach 20 trillion yuan.
